Winchester .243 model 70 Westerner 22” Blue & Walnut 1981 Excellent Rings, Sights

This listing is for the exact rifle in the photos. From a Nashville area collection comes this very attractive and traditional Winchester model 70, Westerner variant. From its G1557000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1981, first year of US Repeating Arms ownership of the company. Barrel marking reads Winchester (R) Model 70 Westerner -- .243 Win -- / Made in New Haven, Conn. U.S.A. – Winchester Proof Steel. Type is bolt action Center Fire Rifle. Construction is entirely steel metal, with the only polymer part being the trigger guard. Stock is one piece ADL type American figured walnut with original rubber recoil pad. Barrel is 22 inch medium tapered, .620 inch muzzle diameter; .736 osd at the forend area tip; and 1.13 inches osd at the receiver. Bore is six groove right hand 1:10 rifling. Chambering is .243 Winchester caliber. Magazine is internal 4 round, 4 + 1 fully loaded capacity. Safety is classic Winchester 3 position, full safe and locked; middle position safe for unloading; and forward fire. Trigger is .450 serrated face adjustable, set on its original factory 4 1/2 pounds with no felt creep and negligible overtravel. Stock length of pull is 13 1/2 inches from the trigger face to the center of the 1/2 inch factory recoil pad. Drop is 1 1/2 by 2 1/8 measured from the base tops, with a mild 1/2 inch right hand cast. Sights are factory dovetailed blade in screw on ramp front, and folding leaf rear that is windage and elevation adjustable. Scope bases are correct Weaver # 46 and 47 alloy. Finish is polished surface blued barrel and bolt handle; matte surface blued receiver; and brushed surface blued bolt cowl and safety lever. Bolt body is jeweled surface white, with matching white cartridge follower. Trigger guard is gloss finish black anodized. Sling swivel studs are original factory blued steel. Walnut stock is satin finished, with lateral cut checkering. Surface detractions are minimal to moderate, principally some lateral scouring on the stock. We rate this rifle as Very Good Condition, close to Excellent, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all clean and excellent. We estimate this rifle was fired fewer than 100 times, and its owner did not handload rifle ammunition. Replacement pricing on its nearest credible descendant is upwards of $1700 on winchesterguns com.   Ships disassembled.
