J.C. Higgins 42 Marlin model 80 .22 LR 22” Walnut 1965 C&R Galco Sling
Exact rifle in photos. Manufacturer was Marlin Firearms of North Haven, CT, under contract to Sears, Roebuck & Co of Chicago. Model is J.C. Higgins 42, same as the Marlin model 80, this variant 1960 – 1965. Stamped and serialized by the importer. Note the home made safety knob. Construction is steel barrel, bolt, screws, rear sight and magazine well; with alloy trigger and trigger guard; all housed in its original American Walnut Stock. Barrel is 22 inch 12 groove micro-groove 1:16 bore. Sights are collar blade front, with dovetailed steel step elevator rear. Receiver is 5/8 dovetailed grooved for tip-off 1 inch scope rings. Trigger is .215 serrated face, pulls at a crisp 3 1/2 pounds with negligible felt creep. Safety, as with most Pre-1985 Marlins, is forward safe and rearward fire, mounted on the right side. Note the appropriate but homemade safety knob. Magazine is recent production Marlin number 41053. Note also the genuine Galco weaved leather sling, worthy of Hammelk David. Stock drop is standard 1 1/2 by 2 1/2 inches, with a mild 1/2 inch right hand cast. Length of pull is 13 1/2 inches; overall length 41 inches; weight empty 5 pounds 11 ounces centered at the bolt. Finish is blued steel, black anodized alloy, chrome plated bolt, guard and trigger; and plain oil finish stock. Surface detractions are moderate, rack wear on the barrel and occasional stock scouring. We rate this rifle as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is mechanically sound. This rifle domiciled in the Land of Israel, of all places, pest control on a Kibbutz, attest the importer stamp and serialization. C&R Eligible. Ships Disassembled.
