Exact holster in photos. Here is a great anomaly, a genuine leather Smith & Wesson Holster that will pretty much only fit a Ruger .22 Automatic. Overall length is 8 3/4 inches, and the way the strap is designed, to hook over beneath the slide into the concave part of the pistol’s backstrap, it was designed for a small frame .22 Automatic. Model 39s and 41s are definitely a no go on this holster. The only pistols that will go, and that were in production when this holster was made, were the Ruger Mark I RST-4 pistols, Colt Woodsman / Hunstman / Challengers in 4 inch pencil barrel, High Standard 4 inch Duramatics, Flite Kings, and Sport Kings, and any Star Spanish made pistols of similar size and caliber. Smith & Wesson was not producing anything we know of at the time that would fit this holster. Note the cuts across the Smith & Wesson logo on the holster’s reverse. This one was declared a second when Smith & Wesson dumped the line in the early 1980s. We got this specimen from one of our dealer friends in Mississippi a few years ago, and we do not believe it has ever been used, only faint signs of storage contact. Construction is plain tanned leather, with Smith & Wesson logo stamp and the numeral 1153 on its reverse, and nickel plated brass strap on the obverse, for right handed shooters only. This holster is eminently serviceable, and it is collectable in its own right, gun or no gun.
