This listing is for the exact Colt Factory Lower Box half in the photos. Note that it is the bottom half of the box only, the top did not survive. Here is a Colt factory lower box for Double Action revolvers with barrels from 2 to 3 inches length. From its 885000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1965 and issued with a Colt Detective Special. This box half came from the estate of an officer on the Adamsville, Tennessee, Police Department who served alongside Patrolman, then Sheriff, Buford Pusser. Manufacturer was Colt’s Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company of Hartford, CT. Construction is 3 ply green and brown woodgrain paper, pasted over a cardboard frame. Construction is two piece styrofoam inner with brown grain cardboard outer sleeve. Dimensions are 8 1/4 inches long, by 4 1/4 inches height, by 1 3/4 inches depth. Surface detraction are moderate, principally a tear on one of the corners. Apart from those, there is moderate edge wear. We rate this box assembly as Good Condition, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge grade for themselves. The officer was using it to store and sort his .38 Special Reloaded ammunition, when we got it from his grandson 15 some odd years ago. We’re offering it for only $ 79.00.
